Rema Made History by Winning China’s Biggest Music Award

Nigerian superstar Divine Ikubor, popularly known as Rema, has made history by becoming the first African artist to win a Chinese music award. The singer achieved the feat after his song ‘Calm Down’ remix with American superstar Selena Gomez won the Best Collaboration of the Year at the 2024 Hito Music Award in the Republic of China

The Hito Music Award is one of the most prestigious music awards in Taiwan, presented by Hit FM, the country’s leading radio station. The award ceremony recognizes the best musical talents from Taiwan, China, Hong Kong, and other regions, as well as international artists who have made an impact on the Chinese music scene

Rema is no stranger to breaking records and barriers in the music industry. The 23-year-old rapper and singer has been hailed as one of the most promising and influential artists of his generation, with multiple awards, nominations, and accolades to his name. He has also collaborated with some of the biggest names in the global music scene, such as Drake, Beyoncé, and Justin Bieber

However, winning a Chinese music award is a remarkable achievement for Rema, as it shows his ability to transcend cultural and linguistic boundaries and connect with a diverse and massive audience. It also reflects the growing popularity and recognition of African music in China, a market that has been traditionally dominated by local and Western artists
